Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has added apps from Alibaba (NYSE:BABA) and JD.com (NASDAQ:JD) to its list of apps for its mixed-reality Vision Pro headset in China, Bloomberg News reported.
The mixed augmented reality/virtual reality, or AR/VR, headset is set to come to China, Japan and Singapore on June 28.
Alibaba’s online marketplace Taobao will offer virtual test drives of Xiaomi (OTCPK:XIACY) (OTCPK:XIACF) cars and simulate various makeup looks as part of its native app for Vision Pro. Meanwhile, JD has launched JD.Vision app to help people virtually place products in their homes, supported by an AI chatbot, the report added.
Previously, Tencent (OTCPK:TCEHY) (OTCPK:TCTZF) agreed to make some of its most vital apps available on the headset for the Chinese market.
Netflix, YouTube and Spotify currently do not have dedicated apps for the headset.
The Cupertino, Calif.-based company unveiled its Vision Pro mixed-reality headset at last year’s developer conference, priced at $3,499. The device, which was the company’s biggest product launch in a decade, went on sale in the U.S. in February.
Earlier this month, Apple unveiled visionOS 2 and announced that Vision Pro will be available in eight more countries at its Worldwide Developers Conference 2024, or WWDC24.
Australia, Canada, France, Germany and U.K. will see the device from July 12.
Reportedly, the company has suspended work on the next version of the pricey headset, and is focused on a more affordable version.
