The Best Banana Nutella Stuffed Waffles

Sometimes, all you need is a little decadence to start your day off right, and my Banana Nutella Stuffed Waffles are just the ticket. Recently, hubs bought this Presto Stuffed Waffle Maker because he’s seen it on TikTok or Instagram somewhere and had to try it. What can I say, I’m sold, I absolutely love it and had to share it with you.

I can pack these beauties with generous dollops of Nutella and slices of ripe banana, ensuring each waffle is brimming with gooey goodness. But that’s just a start, you can make savory waffles too and stuff them with ham and cheese or whatever you wish. So let me show you how it’s done.

Start by whisking together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Now, add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil and vanilla extract and mix until everything is well combined.

Heat up your waffle maker. Also, make sure to read the manual for specific instructions on how to clean it and how to use it.

Pour about a third of a cup of batter into the waffle maker, making sure to cover the bottom grids and the waffle divider thinly but completely. Next, add a few slices of banana and a generous dollop of Nutella in the center, taking care not to get too close to the edges. Top with more batter, ensuring the fillings are nicely covered.

Close your waffle maker and, if yours has this feature, give it a flip. If it does, it’s very important to give it a flip, otherwise it won’t brown nicely on one side. Let the waffles cook for about 7 to 8 minutes or until they’re golden and crispy. Carefully remove the waffle from the maker and let it cool slightly on a rack. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

Serve these however you like. I love a drizzle of chocolate syrup or maple syrup and dusted with a bit of powdered sugar, so good!

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don’t have a stuffed waffle maker?

No stuffed waffle maker? No problem! You can still enjoy this recipe by making regular waffles. Just add a layer of batter to your waffle iron, top with banana and a dollop of Nutella, then lightly cover with more batter. The result won’t be as thick, but you’ll still get that delicious filling with each bite!

Can I make the batter ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the batter the night before and store it covered in the refrigerator. Just give it a good stir before using, as the ingredients may settle.

What can I use instead of Nutella if I have a nut allergy?

Try a nut-free chocolate spread or a seed butter like sunflower butter mixed with cocoa powder and a touch of sweetener.

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  • In another bowl, beat the eggs and then whisk in the milk, oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

  • Preheat your stuffed waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Spread about 1/3 cup batter into waffle maker so bottom grids and waffle divider are thinly but completely covered. Place a few banana slices and a generous dollop of Nutella in the center, being sure to leave a margin around the edges for the batter to expand. Spread additional batter over filling until it reaches the top of the square projections on the waffle tongs.

  • Close waffle maker and flip. Cook for 7 to 8 minutes, or until the waffle is golden brown and cooked through.

  • Carefully remove the waffle from the maker. Let it cool for a minute, then garnish with chopped nuts and a dusting of powdered sugar, if desired.

  • Continue with the remaining batter, banana, and Nutella until all waffles are prepared.

Notes

  1. If using a non-stick waffle maker, a light spray of cooking oil before each waffle ensures effortless removal.
  2. For a less sweet version, reduce the amount of Nutella or substitute with a lighter chocolate spread.
  3. Experiment with different fruits such as sliced strawberries or raspberries for a tasty variation on the banana filling.
  4. Serve immediately, or keep warm in a 200°F oven while preparing multiple batches.
