LONDON — The window displays and store facades on New Bond Street during Christmas have become a heavyweight competition between the luxury brands, but on Thursday evening, Chanel Beauty lit up a large stretch of central London, from Piccadilly to Oxford Street.

British actor and Chanel ambassador Lucy Boynton turned on the lights, which were inspired by the outline of the No.5 fragrance, as crowds gathered around for the spectacle.

“Having grown up in London I have walked under these Christmas lights every year, so I could not be more thrilled to be a part of lighting up Bond Street with Chanel this year,” she said.

The Christmas lights are a collaboration with the New West End Company, which represents more than 600 retail, property and hospitality businesses in the neighborhood.

“We have had some spectacular illuminations on Bond Street across the decades, but this year’s exclusive installation from Chanel fragrance and beauty is something truly special,” said Dee Corsi, chief executive officer of the New West End Company.

The lights installation will remain until Jan. 12 and will be turned on every day from 4 p.m. to midnight. The lights are made from recyclable aluminum and use 85,750 LED bulbs, which the brand said will be reused for future projects.
