Halle and Chlöe Bailey gave the mermaid-core trend a contemporary metallic twist at Femme It Forward’s third annual Give Her FlowHers Gala on Friday evening. The siblings were awarded the “Sisterly Love Award” at the event celebrating Black women in music.
Halle chose a white Do Long gown with a plunging, draped neckline. The bodice featured ruched, rippled details and sheer cutouts on the hips with textural design elements. The full-length gown had a slightly sheer effect, draping over her shoes.
She accessorized with two dainty necklaces and kept her look minimal with a soft smoky eye and berry lips for a pop of color.
Chlöe embraced the office-siren trend with a structured ensemble by the Zaks. Her blazer-style dress, similar to Halle’s, featured a plunging neckline. The light gray blazer dress boasted textural elements, with scale-like detailing from elbow to wrist, resembling gills or feathers.
She completed the look with statement knee-high shoes that echoed the arm details, featuring a three-dimensional, shimmering scale effect fanning out in all directions. Chloe styled her hair up and opted for a makeup style that matched her sister’s.
The mermaid trend saw an influx in popularity with Halle Bailey starred as Ariel in the live action “The Little Mermaid” film last year. The whimsical style trend is characterized by shimmering fabrics, scale-like details and ocean-inspired colors. It includes a variety of styles, from shimmering bralettes and lace-up tops to iridescent slip dresses and scalloped gowns.
The trend has seen a resurgence, with Zuhair Murad dipping into the mermaid-core trend for the designer’s spring 2025 collection.
