Corners Report: Category Based Pickups

0

So here I am, sitting at 6:29 AM and it’s already 83 degrees with humidity, well on the way to another day of heat advisories.  Chicago did its part to promote Twisters by having at least ten tornadoes on the ground last night.  There has already been a Cat 5 Hurricane.

Does this feel like the storms that have hit your team? Also is there anything worse than the beach on a heat advisory day, and sitting with four stitches in the ear so you can’t swim?

The weather is here.  I wish you were beautiful.  Much like the weather, it’s time to use this break from games to shore up some weak spots in the old roster.   Here are some guys who are readily available and can help in a specific category.  Of course, they have massive holes or they would not be readily available.  But focus on the positive, okay?

HR:

Michael Toglia – What can go wrong with a power hitter in Colorado?  Mikey Toga has a positive value overall, barely, but it’s all carried by his 16 HR in less than 200 at bats.  That’s roughly a 48 HR pace!  Readily available in Yahoo at 11% owned, here’s the power boost if you’re like 3 HR back from a guy or something like that.

I dunno guys, Christopher Morel keeps popping up on these lists.  He’s probably someone to trade for, but his ownership rates were dropping until he had a 2 HR game.  People love their highlights;  he’s the baseball equivalent of Justin Fields.  You know, some flashy plays, but ultimately a bad player.  He is probably the most underperforming guy according to metrics, like off the charts, so if you believe in fake stats he’s your guy.  Will produce HR and RBI, a good trade target for those of you who are in need.  Why this guy is 79% owned and Michael Busch only 61 is beyond me though.  I’m not mad I’m disappointed.

Average:

By the way, if Michael Busch is available, scoop him up.  Over .300 for the past month, which of course is crazy high in this season where nobody can hit.  I’m concerned for the K rate over 30, but at this point, he’s very very helpful.  And eligible at first and third!

People have been late to the Josh Smith of the Rangers party.  A replacement for my preseason crush Josh Jung, he’s done nothing but hit and is finally owned in 2/3 of leagues.  .293 on the season will do, and he’s not cooling down with that spicy .357 in the week leading up to the break.  Yes, get him, and he qualifies at SS and OF too.

Is Colt Keith figuring it out?  .316 with 7HR in the past 30 days suggests he is.  The guy has been hitting the ball with some authority, not like a judge in a courthouse authority, but like the type a strict teacher has.  Results are coming now for this up and coming youngster.  Woah, wait, the last two weeks were .370 with 7 HR?  Yeah, get him, could be a season changer.

Picks to Click in Second Half

You guys already forgot about Austin Riley in the second half last year?  So, in his last 70 games, he hit a cool .300 even, which mathematically is kinda impressive and in baseball even more so. 21 HR, 56 R, and 53 RBI isn’t bad either.  In my home league, I just went from 13th to 8th, gaining 40 points this month.  Riley is the reason I go from 8th to 3rd.

Alec Bohm, while not hitting for power is still hitting.  I bet there’s another power surge on there.

Well, just got the call to jump in the 4Runner and drive on the beach.  Good luck and thanks for reading.

Did I miss any category helpers?
