Lauren London has revisited the chain of event that brought her and Nipsey Hussle into each other’s lives, explaining that it all started with a purchase.

During an appearance on the podcast A Really Good Crywith Rahdi Devluki published on Tuesday (September 10), the actress recounted their meeting, after she had unsuccessfully attempted to connect with him.

“I do remember how we met,” she starts. “I was on a set and at the time he had dropped this Crenshaw mixtape that all the ladies on set, like the glam was listening to. They were all from L.A., we were in Atlanta shooting. And I thought, it would be really cool if I got them his mixtape and all the Crenshaw stuff. I reached out to a friend of mine, Danny, like, ‘Hey, do you know Nip? Could you reach out and see if I could get a discount on some of this stuff cuz I’m kinda buying in bulk.

“Nip never reached out; his management reached out to my friend. And I didn’t get the discount either. So, I was like, ‘Ok, I guess he’s not tryna give me, that’s fine. But I bought the stuff, gave the girls their wrap gifts. I ended up following him on… I don’t even know what social, my memory’s so wack, maybe it was Twitter? So I start following him and he DM’d me like, ‘Hey, thanks for the support, ‘preciate you. Send me your sizes so I can send you a personal box. So then he gave me his number and so I text him, because I was like, I don’t do DMs.’”

Asked by host Devluki if she thought her late partner was cute at the time, London confessed that there had been an ulterior motive behind her decision to follow him on social media.

“Yeah, I thought he was fine. First of all me following was very… he took the bait.”

Lauren London paid Nipsey Hussle a heartbreaking tribute on the fifth anniversary of his murder earlier this year.

Taking to Instagram on March 31, the You People star remarked that she’s come to spend the entire month of March dreading the day, on which the rapper was slain in front of his Marathon clothing store in 2019.

“If you know me, you know March is always tough for me,” she wrote. “31 days of holding my breath. This day decided to fall on Easter Sunday this 2024. Interesting…considering your name #GodWillRise. Energy never dies. I love you. Eternal.”

Nipsey Hussle’s killer, Eric Holder Jr., was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison by a Los Angeles judge in February 2023, eight months after being convicted for gunning down the rapper.

Holder, 33, was allegedly angered by Nipsey accusing him of being a snitch during a brief conversation outside his South L.A. clothing store. He returned moments later with a pair of weapons and unloaded at least 10 shots into the Crenshaw rapper, fatally wounding him.

“I don’t want to give a misconception that I’m at peace and I’m walking around on a cloud,” London told PEOPLE while reflecting on her partner’s death months after the verdict.

“I have to wake up with the intention of this every day because there are days I don’t want to, and I’m like angry about it. And that’s what healing is. It is up and down, side to side, all over the place. You know what I mean? And with each new level, there’s something else.”
