Netlist patent claim invalidated in dispute with Samsung, Micron, tribunal rules

Netlist (OTCQB:NLST) lost an ongoing dispute with Samsung (OTCPK:SSNLF) and Micron (MU) when an administrative tribunal ruled that one of the claims to a patent was invalid.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board ruled that claim 16 of the ’912 patent is unpatentable, according a ruling from the administrative tribunal on Wednesday.

The patent infringement claim is related to printed circuit boards, memory modules and double-date-rated, or DDR, memory.

The decision comes after the PTAB said in June that there’s a reasonable likelihood that Micron (MU) will be able to establish that a claim of Netlist’s patent suit (known as the ‘912 patent) is unpatentable.

Samsung (SSNLF and Netlist (OTCQB:NLST) have been battling over rights to patent memory module technologies since a 2015 joint development and licensing agreement encountered some problems about three years ago. Netlist formally ended the licensing agreement in mid-2020. Netlist is also involved in patent lawsuits with Google (GOOGL) over the patents.
