RCL Update: The Week That Was, Week 19, 2024

0

A few announcements before we dive into the Razzball Commenter Leagues week 19 stats.  First off, our RCL trade deadline is tomorrow at midnight, get those deals in while you still can.  Trade B_don all your closers.  Week 20 also marks the start of the next round of the Razzslam.  Not much you can do here but cheer your guys on, so get your heartiest cheers prepared.  We have eight scoring periods remaining in our fantasy baseball season, it seems like only yesterday we were having opening day in another country before waiting two weeks and numerous injuries before having opening day 2.0 stateside.  What a time that was, we were younger then.  Alas, we are now older, wiser, and filled with more Funyuns, let’s dive into week 19 stats before we age any more.

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

It’s now a 13 point lead for Son as he looks to run away with this thing with eight weeks to go.  Son usually peaks early and fades out, but this year it seems he’s playing this perfectly.  Coolwhip was the big winner this week, picking up 7.5 points and moving from tenth to eighth.  I was the biggest loser, dropping five points and falling from fourth to seventh.  Two steps forward, four steps back this season.  I also want to note that the lowest ERA of the week was Kirksey’s 3.65.  Everyone else was over 4.00.  Also, shout out to MarmosDad for coming from 12th to pass me and take sixth this week.  That’s a never-say-die attitude right there.  Respect.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

Our top ten and definitely moving on to the next round.  The top 30 advance to the next round with everyone else being kicked to the Wild Card Tier.  The top three from the Wild Card Tier are added to the Championship Tier and fourth and fifth place remain in the Wild Card Tier:

If you were in the Wild Card Tier and weren’t one of these five teams, your RazzSlam season is at an end.  Better luck next year.

From here, I believe only the top two teams will make it out of the Wild Card Tier and into the final Championship Tier along with the top 18 from the Championship Tier, leaving us with 20 teams to battle for glory.  It’s confusing, but makes sense if your squint at it.

TOP 10

For those too lazy to check the MASTER STANDINGS, I present to you, the current top 10

The RCL-Bot is on vacation, but the standings should run Thursday or Friday, so check back and we’ll chat about them next week.  As for this week, Vin has our current leaders for you:

WEEKLY LEADERS

The best of the best from the week that was.

R – 68 – Creative Chaos (ECFBL) & The Bananas (Crab Army)

HR –25 – Creative Chaos (ECFBL)

RBIs – 68 – Creative Chaos (ECFBL) & NAYLOR BROS INC (RCL 2)

SB – 17 – ejendres (RCL 14)

AVG – .366 – ejendres (RCL 19)

K – 88 – Organic Pringles (FCL)

W – 8 – Wellhungarian (RCL 31) & Rowers (RCL 11)

SV –  8 – A Man Named Brady (RCL 35)

ERA (Min. 40 IP) – 1.56 – Moodlight Graham (RCL 12) (in 52 IP)

WHIP (Min. 40 IP) – 0.792 – St Votto’s Blue Maple Leaf (NOTLZ) (in 48 IP)

Creative Chaos had himself a week!  I’ve played with CC for many years in ECFBL and he’s always a worthy adversary, nice work!  Ejendres got two teams in the leaderboard and set a new weekly high for batting average.  I’m a little surprised the other offense numbers weren’t higher considering the ERAs this week.  Look at these stats from Vin:

4 teams had an ERA under 2. (Last Week there were 28)

82 teams had an ERA over 6.  (Last Week there were 14)

7 teams hit under .200   (Last Week there were 18)

48 teams hit over .300.  (Last Week there were 34)

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: Wheel of Nonsense

League: RCL 27

Stats:   AVG: .288, R: 63, HR: 23, RBI: 65, SB: 10

IP: 60, ERA: 4.05, WHIP: 1.30, K: 63, W: 5, SV: 2

Summary: I wouldn’t normally give a team with poor pitching like this TOW, but when everyone has awful pitching, hitting rules the day.  WoN went ham on offense, nearing the top of the charts in every category.  They held onto first place in RCL 27, stretching their lead from 3.5 to 6.5.  The offense was led by Jose Ramirez, who hit .391 with 5 home runs and 11 RBI. He also stole 2 bases and scored 9 runs.  Ketel Marte (.370/4 HR/9 RBI), Jackson Holliday (.389/2 HR/7 RBI), and Anthony Santander (.344/3 HR/7 RBI) were also big contributors.  On the pitching side, Blake Snell’s no-hitter (11 K/3 BB) carried much of the load. Paul Skenes (11.1 IP/3 ER/10 K) and Spencer Schwellenbach (7 IP/10 K/3.86/0.857) supported the effort. Robert Suarez had a win and a save and did not allow a baserunner in 2 innings.  Big wheel, keep on turnin.
