RCL Update: The Week That Was, Week 21, 2024

0

Summer is drawing to a close, kids are starting to head back to school in places, and we are six weeks from the end of our favorite nerdy game.  I am currently taking advantage of the last bits of summer with a little vacation time.  Apologies for a briefer than normal update, but you understand, vacation mindset and all.  I’m actually taking a baseball related vacation, heading to Atlanta to watch my favorite team play against the Phils and the Nats.  Sadly I won’t be seeing any of the players from opening day besides MHII and Matt Olson as everyone else is deceased.  Feels a lot like my fantasy teams right now, to be honest.  Just spinning wheels.  There are plenty of teams making moves though, let’s talk about them!

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

Grey had a big week and remember that Aaron Judge trade when Grey wins this thing.  Grey has gained 30 points in seven weeks and the momentum is building at the perfect time to take this down.  Another six points this week as he moved to second place, just 4.5 points behind Son.  Grey led the league in HRs (shocking) and IP as he piles up the pitching counting stats.  Mike C was the team going the other direction this week, losing 4.5 points and falling to fourth.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

One week left in this round and here are our current teams moving to the round 3 championship as of now:

John Ke smoked everyone this week gaining 659 points and moving into first.

SB – 25 – PlatanoPowers (RCL 12)

We set new weekly records in stolen bases, strikeouts, and WHIP this week!  PlatanoPowers currently leads the RCLs in steals and stole another 25 this week, putting them at 242 and on pace for 315, which would be a new RCL record.  The current record is 303.  Congrats to RCL 5 for posting two teams on the leaderboard this week and JKJ for setting the new strikeout record for the year.

Some more stats for the week from Vin:

48 teams had an ERA under 2. (Last Week there were 15)

25 teams had an ERA over 6.  (Last Week there were 47)

13 teams hit under .200   (Last Week there were 2)

6 teams hit over .300.  (Last Week there were 58)

Finally, a reminder on IP pacing: 76.7% of the schedule has been completed. 767 IP would be on pace for the 1000 IP minimum. 1074 IP is on pace for the maximum 1400 IP.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: Man or Stroman?

League: Original Recipe

Stats:   AVG: .272, R: 56, HR: 22, RBI: 49, SB: 11

IP: 64, ERA: 1.41, WHIP: 0.953, K: 82, W: 5, SV: 4

Summary: A HUGE week for Man or Stroman?.  Leading the RCLs in Runs and HRs while also going sub 1.50 ERA and sub 1.00 WHIP is pretty wild.  Man or Stroman? gained 7.5 points to hit 100 points and has an 8-point lead atop Original Recipe.  On offense, Shohei Ohtani only hit .167, but contributed four home runs and five stolen bases in his quest for 50/50. Adolis Garcia and Kerry Carpenter each added three home runs.  The incredible pitching staff includes Chris Sale (Win/22 K/1.38/0.923), Blake Snell (21 K/0.68/0.975), Tarik Skubal(Win/14 K/1.50/0.917), and Michael King (Win/10 K/0.00/1.167). Chad Green picked up two saves.  Unreal.  Man or Stroman? looks to be peaking at the perfect time and could run away with OR.
