The Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) announced that SHATEC, its training arm, will shift from pre-employment training to focus on continuing education and training (CET) programmes.

SHATEC receives the final intake of pre-employment training students next month. At the same time, in consultation with industry partners, it will continue its CET programmes for the hotel workforce.

Together with partners that include Workforce Singapore, SHATEC will put an emphasis on reskilling and upskilling existing professionals in the tourism and hospitality industries, updating their skill sets with digital fluency and sustainability in mind.

A necessary shift in focus

This paradigm shift is expected to bolster SHATEC’s position as Singapore’s prime institution supporting the tourism and hospitality sectors, particularly their efforts to transform and modernise the workplace.

SHA president Kenneth Li said of the shift: “Being the umbrella body for Singapore’s hotel sector, [we recognise] the needs of the future of hospitality. As we embark on the journey of job transformation for hotels, it is a natural progression for SHATEC to assume an elevated role in nurturing talents to serve hotels of tomorrow.”
