Corners Report: He’s Back!

0

Well hello everyone, back after a two week hiatus.  No, I wasn’t holding out for a higher salary.  Nope, didn’t visit my Sherpa to tell me what to do for my struggling TGFBI squad (he would have said, remember you have it and make moves).  I was in Colorado with the family and told them I’d take a break from this for a couple weeks.  I truly hope you survived, and that at least five of you checked in on Wednesdays to see this and were a bit disappointed.

In honor of my return, the focus is going to be on some veterans who have also returned and are worthy of your consideration and possibly even trust.

Christian Walker has been the top rated first baseman in the past month.  Ten HR and 27 RBI will help.  If you are in an OBP league, Walker is not a huge walker, but really that’s just a minor quibble.  What a great season from your 8th round pick.

Another guy who’s found his stride even if he doesn’t walk much is Vladimir Guerrero Jr.  A popular candidate to be traded by fans of every team but the Blue Jays, he continues to hit over .300 in this depressed offensive season.  Walks again are lower, OBP is not elite, but you can’t complain about a guy who hits the ever loving tar out of the ball and has over a .900 OPS the past 30 days.  Kudos for holding on to him.  Moron if you abandoned ship.  Never give up on elite tools.

By the way, I’m using the Razzball subscriber 30 days rank.  It’s so good that I’m using it to even write about real actual baseball on another site!  Like, the tools are legit no matter what you’re looking for and worth the money.

Boy Howdy would you look at that Andrew Vaughn go!  A couple months ago, I wrote him off.  Well, I guess a bat only former 6 overall pick might have talent yet?  .299 with 7 dingers and a .533 slug over the last month?  I’ll forgive you for ignoring everything about the White Sox this year;  that’s why you read Razzball so we can tell you things!  Yes, pick up Vaughn.

Nolan Jones might not have been worth where you drafted him, I fear.  In the past 30, he’s the 54th ranked first baseman, with a .203 average and 2 HR.  If only he had some weird stat to point to a fluke last year, like BABIP or something?  It’s time to cut bait, even in an angry fashion, if for some reason you are holding out hope.  Colorado is a beautiful state if you take away their baseball team.

I’ll forgive you if you forget about the Twins Jose Miranda, but he’s hitting over .400 the past month and .331 for the season.  I’ve been a fan of his game for a while and am glad to see him getting consistent at bats in Minnesota.  Fourth rated 3B after the usual suspects, and possibly a pickup of the year candidate if he keeps this up.

I said Manny Machado would take a bit to warm up with his elbow issues.  Well, he’s heating up and I’m wrong enough that I get to flex when I’m right, amirite?  Over .300 the last month and seven HR, boosting his season totals to well above the new crappy .240 average average.  This is probably the last year I recommend Manny as I am today years old when I learned he’s already 32.  Ah, the passage of time halts for no man, but enjoy this season.

Royce Lewis got hurt again.  He should just jog everywhere

Rough month for some young guns, and that’s why we all caution about possible breakouts;  they can crash.  Isaac Paredes is around .200.  Christopher Morel is below .200 the last month. Nolan Gorman has been a negative value in the same time frame.   Beware of the young guys!

Well, hopefully this whet your appetite to pay attention for the rest of the season.  It’s go time.  Some people, especially low ranking ones, are done.  I made up 20 points in two weeks in my home league just by flipping some stats.  It’s time for the Razzball cream to rise to the top.

Thanks for reading and have a great week!
