DFS: Pitcher’s Duel With Kirby Vs Verlander In Seattle

0

I’m still an honest Mariners fan. The offense still is not particularly threatening (despite SOME recent success) and Justin Verlander is Justin Verlander. Kirby is on the mound for the Mariners. This is easily one of the best pitching matchups of the evening. There is no reason why both Verlander and Kirby can’t dominate the opposing lineup and come away with quality starts. The over/under is only 7 for this one, so the sportsbooks are fully expecting solid performances from both pitchers.  We’ve got a bigger breakdown of these pitchers, as well as other players to keep your eye on for the Wednesday evening slate on DraftKings. The games start at 7:20pm EST.

Justin Verlander, SP: $8,800 – The Mariners offense has had a few decent games as of late, but Verlander is coming off a quality start with 9 ks against the A’s. Sadly, the Mariner’s offense can play to the level of the A’s. This slate is top-heavy with pitching, but it feels like there is some value with Verlander, especially considering the number of strikeouts he can rack up against the Mariners. Justin Verlander is our SP1 for this slate.

George Kirby, SP: $8,500 – Let’s face it. Kirby hasn’t been great in his last 2 starts, giving up 5 runs in each game. He did have a 15-point performance against the Astros in Houston earlier this season. The promising part of this pick is that Kirby is a much better pitcher at home than on the road. He sports a 2.97 ERA in 30.1 innings at T-Mobile Park this season. This has all the makings of a classic pitcher’s duel between Kirby and Verlander. Feel free to fade but do so at your own risk.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr, 1B: $5,000 – Vlad Jr is back to normal, at least for the last week or so. He’s hitting just under .300 with 5 homers, 25 RBI, and an .811 OPS. His last 6 games (not counting Tuesday) are outputs of 11, 23, 10, 5, 18, and 2. He’s certainly not immune to a bust-level performance. 1B in this slate is pretty light, but we’re hoping for 10+ from Vlad against Chris Flexen who sports a 5.69 ERA and has given up 8 home runs on the season.

Nico Hoerner, 2B: $4,000 –We’re getting in at a low price on Hoerner here. He’s overcome his dreadfully slow start and is making his way back to fantasy relevance. Hoerner can swipe a bag or two as well. He can get on base, take a base, and score some runs. No reason why he can’t produce a double-digit game for us Wednesday.

Christopher Morel, 3B: $4,300 – Do you ever get the feeling that someone is just due? This is exactly how I feel about Morel. He has 9 home runs this season but hasn’t hit once since May 11th. He also hasn’t scored more than 10 points since May 17th. So, we’re asking for a lot from Morel Wednesday, but all we’re really asking for is his 10th homer of the year.

Bo Bichette, SS: $4,300 – Here’s another Blue Jays player who started off slow but seems to be picking it up. Bichette has 4 10-point performances in his last 6 (not counting Tuesday), including a home run on Monday. Remember, we’re fading Flexen and the White Sox bullpen this evening, so we’re going to need the Blue Jays big dogs to eat. Start Bo with confidence.

Tyler Freeman, OF: $4,100 – The Guardians are in Colorado, and Freeman is one of the less expensive options who produces decent fantasy numbers. He hits all over the lineup and is very much capable of double-digit output. Playing at Coors Field certainly helps as well.

Luke Raley, OF: $3,500 – This is contradictory to picking Verlander but hear me out. We spent some decent money on the players listed prior, so we had to find a real value pick. Raley should be in the lineup against Verlander, and he’ll hit right in the middle of the Mariners order. This is a stab worth taking based on his price, and how he’s been playing lately.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

As of 9pm EST Tuesday, there is no potential for delays or rainouts. There are a plethora of options for players to swap out if needed. I know the top guys produce, but it’s tough to build around Tucker, Soto, or Judge, unless you see value in other pitchers.  Some other value options are Jackson Chourio ($3,100), Eddie Rosario ($3,500), and Mauricio Dubon ($3,200).

Doing Lines In Vegas

The Blue Jays/White Sox game has an over/under of 8.5. Plenty of room for the Jays to score 6-8 runs.  Cubs are slight favorites at -135 but that has everything to do with Shota Imanaga on the mound. As per usual, the over for the Rockies in Coors is the highest of the evening at 11. Might be worth sneaking some more Guardians in if possible.
