Entergy’s (NYSE:ETR) Louisiana unit has secured approval from the state’s Public Service Commission to add as much as 3 GW of solar power to its generation portfolio, UtilityDive.com reported Thursday.
The expansion would represent the largest of its kind in state history, according to Entergy Louisiana (ETR), which owns 230 MW of renewable energy resources.
The utility regulator’s expedited review process is needed to procure new solar energy at the pace currently expected by Louisiana electric customers, Entergy (ETR) said, according to the report.
Entergy Louisiana (ETR) expects to build 6-12 new solar projects over the next few years, the company said.
Carbon-free energy resources comprise ~25% of Entergy Louisiana’s (ETR) generation portfolio, according to the company, which now has more than 3.8 GW of solar generation in various stages of development and approval.
