Kamala Harris: Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is sitting down for her first interview since taking over the top of the ticket. She will be joined by her running mate Tim Walz tonight on CNN.

US GDP: Economists forecast the estimate for second-quarter economic growth to remain the same as the advanced estimate of 2.8 per cent.

Dollar General: The discount retailer is expected to report a nearly 6 per cent increase in revenue compared with the same period last year, to $10.4bn. Dollar General’s results before the market opens will probably also shed further light on consumer behaviour. In the previous quarter the company saw an increase in footfall but customers spent less per visit, due to inflationary pressures.

Other economic data: New applications for unemployment aid are expected to have remained unchanged from the previous week at 232,000 in the week ended August 24. Pending home sales in the US are forecast to have fallen in July by 0.4 per cent, having risen 4.8 per cent the previous month.

Other earnings: Best Buy and Birkenstock will report quarterly results before the opening bell. Dell, Lululemon, Ulta and Gap will report after market close.

Fedspeak: Raphael Bostic, president of the Atlanta Federal Reserve, will deliver a speech at an event at the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Scheller College of Business.
