- The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) has opened an investigation into Volkswagen (OTCPK:VWAGY) ID.4 electric vehicles manufactured between 2021 and 2023 for a faulty door handle assembly. The investigation could result in the recall of over 51K vehicles.
- Owners have complained that the doors opened with “no reasonable detectability” and often will not allow the vehicle’s occupants to enter or exit. No fatalities or injuries have been reported.
- As part of their investigation, the ODI will also determine if a previous recall regarding water seepage through the doors was remedied.
- At that time, Volkswagen (OTCPK:VWAGY) admitted the door handles did not meet manufacturer specifications for protection against water ingress. Since water ingress can cause the door handle to malfunction, including opening inadvertently, the ODI will determine if Volkswagen (OTCPK:VWAGY) handled the previous recall effectively.
