Prospect News: Stash List Volume 7: Jung And Hungry

0

Graduated from Stash List Volume 6: Nacho Cheese, Arcia!: Yilber Diaz, Jacob Wrobleski, Tirso Ornelas, Jacob Wilson

Jackson Holliday is not on this list. One of the few rules I’ve implemented here is that once you’re a big leaguer in the current season, you’re off the list. Holliday cashed those major league game checks, so he won’t be represented here.

1. Rays 3B Junior Caminero | 21 | AAA

Hit three homers in six Florida Complex League games on his way back from a quad strain. Makes his return to Triple-A over the weekend. Feels like a matter of weeks not months, but it complicates the issue that Tampa is struggling to stay in the race.

2. Orioles 3B Coby Mayo | 22 | AAA

Shoutout to all the Norfolk fans watching that Tides lineup night after night. Getting that chef-level aioli at mayonnaise pricing.

3. Yankees OF Jasson Dominguez | 21 | IL

Injured on June 19 with an oblique issue. Will reportedly miss six-to-eight weeks.

4. Tigers RHP Jackson Jobe | 21 | AA

The Tigers are 8-and-2 over their last ten games and six games out of the final wild card spot. That would be close enough for me to wave Jobe onto the next challenge in Triple-A with the idea that he’d only have a couple starts there before we’d call him up if still in the race come August.

5. Tigers 3B Jace Jung | 23 | AAA

Same story, second verse, Jace Jung could help the Tigers remain in the hunt and should get that chance after the trade deadline.

6. Cubs C Moises Ballesteros | 20 | AAA

Chicago is 3.5 games out of the last wild card spot, and Ballesteros would be a useful piece as a part-time catcher who is such a plus with the bat that he carves out a sizable piece of the designated hitter pie. Fun fact: a friend of mine flew from Dallas to Des Moines last week and saw Ballesteros on the plane as he traveled back from the Futures Game activities.

7. Diamondbacks 3B Deyvison De Los Santos | 21 | AAA

Eugenio Suarez righted the ship a bit headed into the break, but De Los Santos should get his chance soon enough if he keeps raking. If the season ended today, Arizona would have a one-game playoff for the final wild card spot. DDLS hit his 28th home run of the minor league season on Friday. Best to leave no stone unturned and see if he can hit some of those homers for the snakes.

8. Braves SS Nacho Alvarez Jr. | 21 | AAA

Feels like something could open up for Alvarez any day now. Atlanta tends to call a guy up when he looks ready and figure out the rest later.

9. Braves C Drake Baldwin | 23 | AAA

Went into the break hot then looked fantastic at the Futures Game, showcasing a center-left approach that allows him to wait an extra beat and still generate power from the left side. He seems like an ideal trade chip for a team with the major league catching position under control. My thinking is he could soon be dealt to a team that drops him right into a major league role as a catcher-slash-designated-hitter.

10. Guardians LHP Doug Nikhazy | 24 | AAA

The one’s for all the command and control guys out there. The contact hitters. The glue guys. Nikhazy is 6-foot-nuthin and a hundred and nuthin but makes it work by repeating his delivery and hitting his spots at multiple speed bands with diverse movement profiles. He’s thrown 21 innings at Triple-A across four starts and has a 0.80 WHIP and 0.86 ERA for his troubles.
