RCL Update: The Week That Was, Week 18, 2024

0

The MLB trade has provided a lot of fun this season and luckily, most of our closers have stayed in a closing gig for now.  I have been stashing Ben Joyce and Andrew Nardi, just in case.  My lone Jeff Hoffman share appears to be toast, but who knows with the Phil’s bullpen.  Like the rest of you, I will be glued to the interwebs until 6 PM tonight hoping to score a deal on the waiver wire when a surprise trade goes down.  Speaking of trades, a reminder that our Razzball Commenter League trade deadline is Wednesday, August 7th at midnight.  If you do lose an entire bullpen today, at least you have a week or so to make adjustments.  Let’s take a look at the week that was, week 18!

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

No major movement in the standings this week outside of Kirksey and I swapping spots (fourth and fifth).  However, Son made a major leap in points to open up his league lead, hitting 90 points, the most anyone has had since week three in this league.  Son is now 8.5 points ahead of MikeC and if he doesn’t run out of moves by the end of the season he could be sitting pretty.  Grey also made a big leap this week, gaining a league best 8 points (and finishing runner-up in TOW calculations).  Grey is now nipping on my and Kirksey’s heels.  Thanks, B_don.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

Moe Deportes took over the overall lead this week, jumping up from third last week.  Corbin Young had a huge week gaining a league-best 738 points and moving up 52 places to third.  This is the time of the tournament where a few hot weeks can see you win this thing.

On the Wild Card side, friend of the show, Kenny Cashman, Mr. Rotowear himself, jumped into a qualifying spot.

WEEKLY LEADERS

The best of the best from the week that was.

R – 65 – HoosierBoss (RCL 22) & Royce and Shine (RCL 26)

HR –26 – Harrys (RCL 10)

RBIs – 70 – oldrock (RCL 29)

SB – 22 – QuietJon (RCL 12)

AVG – .359 – Buddens126 (RCL 22)

K – 93 – Dunphy’s Joint Venture (RCL 24)

W – 8 – 5 Teams Tied (including Grey & Son from Perts League!)

SV –  9 – Vin Joins (RCL 2)

ERA (Min. 40 IP) – 0.44 – smehlis (RCL 17) (in 41.1 IP)

WHIP (Min. 40 IP) – 0.638 – Vin One Eight (RCL 18) (in 62.2 IP)

We set a new stolen base weekly record and came one steal shy of tying the all-time weekly record of 23 steals, set last season.  Speaking of steals, TagEmAndBagEm (RCL14) stole 21 this week and is now on pace for 307, which is four more than the all-time steals record.  Impressive stuff.

We also tied the HR record and set a new low in ERA for a week.  Not bad all around and congrats to VinWins for appearing on the list twice this week!

A reminder from Vin: 65.4% of the schedule has been completed. 654 IP would be on pace for the 1000 IP minimum. 915 IP is on pace for the maximum 1400 IP.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: GPFantasy2024

League: RCL 9

Stats:   AVG: .288, R: 50, HR: 16, RBI: 50, SB: 11

IP: 60, ERA: 2.40, WHIP: 0.883, K: 66, W: 8, SV: 3

Summary: I love the team name, and makes me wonder how well ChatGPT would run a fantasy baseball team.  If it used Rudy’s tools, I think we’d all be toast.  Regardless, the big week moved GPFantasy from third to first in RCL 9, gaining 8.5 points on the week.  Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Josh Bell each hit three home runs and Brenton Doyle drove in eight to lead the offense. CJ Abrams had only two hits all week, but did contribute three steals.  Bailey Ober (15 K/1.20/0.533) and Tarik Skubal (14 K/1.93/1.286) each won both of their starts. Andres Munoz chipped in a couple saves, while Ryan Helsley had a win and a save.  Nicely done, GPFantasy!
