RCL Update: The Week That Was, Week 8, 2024

0

As we approach Memorial Day and the week eight recap of the Razzball Commenter Leagues our leagues standings have stabilized a bit.  Those teams who got out to 30 point leads at the end of April have drifted back to the pack (hopefully) and even those teams who were sitting in last place (I had a few of those) have chipped away at the deficit (though not as much as I’d like).  The team with Aaron Judge finally caught up in HRs this week.  The team with Elly is running away with SBs.  This is the time to take a look at those standings and see where you’re lacking and make a move.  Historically this coming week is one of the busiest trading weeks of the year.  The week before the deadline being the other.  So, cozy up to the grill or firepit, grab a beverage of choice, and scan those standings while firing off trades this weekend.  Best of luck in your quest for glory.

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

Speaking of leagues normalizing, Kirksey holds onto first place in the ‘Perts League for another week but has really fallen back to the pack.  11 points separate him from eighth place.  Knoche and Coolwhip lost the most spots this week (3) but only lost 5.5 and 1.5 points respectively.  The biggest point loss was from MarmosDad (7.5) who sent out an SOS this week looking for trades.  I picked up the most standings positions this week moving from sixth to fourth thanks to four points gained, but Lineup Builder and Son each had 4.5 points gained to take the most points crown.  Meanwhile, Grey lost a half point but moved into second place!

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

The top four remain intact this week and the entire top ten is the same teams as last week save for Ryan Eisner and Yancy Eaton replacing Matt Poole and Stephen Gesuele.  Troy Sperbeck is the biggest gainer this week, picking up 752 points and jumping up 109 places to 117th overall.

STL Squat Cobblers traded Josh Naylor to Retro Vertigo for Zac Gallen & Christian Scott

I made a little trade this week for a questionable closer, but we had some other blockbusters this week.  Wyatt Langford saved being dropped by getting traded for Wenceel Perez.  Crazy how much helium Langford got this preseason.  I fell victim as well, snagging him in one league just to have a piece in case he went bonkers.  Well, his stats are certainly bonkers.  Bonkers bad.  I could see taking a chance though if you’re way up in the standings and have the space.  Julio Rodriguez has also had a “rough” start.  Seems like an Acuna rough start to me and I think both these guys have monster summers.  Harper and Nola is a good return though and one that shouldn’t leave anyone with too many regrets.

If only it was week nine!  We had so many nines show up in the leaderboard this week, including RCL 9 putting two teams on the board.  My team led the RCLs in batting average, one of the few things that’s gone right for this team this year.  Also of note, oldrock (RCL 29) had a 0.00 ERA, but only 35.67 IP, so didn’t qualify for the leaderboard.  So close!

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: Hugh’s Bots

League: RCL 20

Stats:   AVG: .288, R: 44, HR: 16, RBI: 43, SB: 12

IP: 54.1, ERA: 1.16, WHIP: 0.791, K: 49, W: 9, SV: 2

Summary: If you compare Hugh’s Bots’ numbers to the weekly leaders you’ll see they were right in the running for leading just about every category except for saves.  A few things are striking me with TOW’s this year.  Almost everyone so far has come close to a slam and legs average, and many have had under two ERAs and sub one WHIPs.  There are so many good team ERAs this year.  I’m in dead last in one league with a 3.75.  I feel like there’s always a few teams every year with an ERA over four, but not this year.  Anyway, back to Hugh’s.  Alec Bohm drove in 10 runs, Elly De La Cruz stole 5 bases, and three players added three home runs – Gunnar Henderson, Giancarlo Stanton (.400), and Adley Rutschman (.353).  Aaron Nola led the pitching staff with 2 wins, 13 strikeouts, and ratios of 1.13/0.563.  Cristian Javier, John Means, Chris Sale, Gavin Stone, and Ranger Suarez each picked up a win in their lone start.  Josh Hader and Jordan Romano each picked up a win and a save.  The huge week moved Hugh’s Bots into first place, sitting at 100 points after a five point gain.  They now sit two points ahead of second place, and 33.5 points ahead of the fourth place team…me.  Impressive stuff.
