2024 SVHD Leaders

Weekly Saves Leaders

Weekly Holds Leaders

Weekly Blown Saves Leaders :'(

Arizona Diamondbacks:

  • Paul Sewald 1 SV. Limited work but did the damn thang. No baserunners. Joe Mantiply had the only hold, pitching just 0.2 IP all week. Ryan Thompson was hit with 1 L and 1 BS, striking out zero in 1 IP. Another shoutout for Justin Martinez for earning a win and striking out 5 over five scoreless. Wish he’d leapfrog everyone for setup duties, cuz I think he’d rule at it.

Atlanta Braves:

  • Raisel Iglesias 3 SV. He was purty good. Joe Jimenez led the way with 2 HLD. Good metrics and 4 K despite four baserunners. Pierce Johnson struck out 6 and had 1 HLD but also earned 1 BS. I like Jimenez best for setup until AJM is back.

Baltimore Orioles:

  • Craig Kimbrel 1 SV. Limited to just one inning, but it was perfect and he K’d a pair. Yennier Cano 1 HLD, no runs in 2.2 IP. He’s been spotty, to say the least: 6.87 FIP and 1.66 WHIP over his last month (9.2 IP).

Boston Red Sox:

  • Brennan Bernardino had 2 HLD, striking out 6 in 4.1 scoreless. No save opps for Kenley Jansen, and Chris Martin wasn’t very good in one inning. “Wasn’t very good” as in absolutely awful. Whatever, I still like him.

Chicago Cubs:

  • Hector Neris 1 W, 1 SV, 1 BS. He’s rather meh in 2024, but you gotta ride him out in SV-only formats. Mark Leiter Jr. wasn’t good but did still eek out 1 W and 1 HLD (and also 1 L). To be fair, Leiter’s metrics were fine: 33.3 K%, 17.4 SwStr%, and 37 CSW%. That’s better than fine; that’s right proper good, pards! Sadly also allowed 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, and 1 BB in 2.1 IP (but also 4 K!).

Chicago White Sox:

  • Lol just honestly steer clear of this mess. Even Michael Kopech unless you’re just real hard up for saves.

Cincinnati Reds:

  • Alexis Diaz 2 SV. I see lots of blue in the metrics cells on my spreadsheet, and my preseason Top 10 ranking ain’t looking so hot at all, but I still like the guy overall. He’ll be pretty hard-pressed to lose his gig, but I reckon it ain’t outta the realm of possibility. Fernando Cruz got just 1 HLD but also gave owners a line they wouldn’t mind from any arm on their staff: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, and 7 K. Lucas Sims had 1 SV and 1 HLD and was much less efficient (but did have 5 K, to his credit).

Cleveland Guardians:

  • Emmanuel Clase 1 SV. He was awesome in his 2 IP. He’s been awesome all year, if you’ve been living under a rock. Four different guys got a hold. Cade Smith was one of em, and he also scored a dub, striking out 4 in two scoreless. Scott Barlow leads the team with 14 HLD, and Hunter Gaddis comes in second with 12.

Colorado Rockies:

  • Jalen Beeks is the headline boi this week. Not cuz he’s especially good or anything, but he does have a firm grip on the closer job, and that always means something in fantasy baseball. Had 2 SV this week, striking out 5 over 3.1 IP, allowing just 1 ER and no walks. Victor Vodnik has worked his up to relevancy for holds, as he had 2 HLD while no one else had a single one. He got the 8th inning against the Dodgers in his last appearance.

Detroit Tigers:

  • Only SVHD this week came from Alex Faedo (1 HLD). He also had 1 BS. I’m genuinely of the opinion that Jason Foley is the only name worth a damn right now in most formats.

Houston Astros:

  • Josh Hader 1 SV. Struck out 6 in three scoreless. Nasty 27.8 SwStr% and 37 CSW%. He’s fine. Bryan Abreu 1 HLD, 8 K, 1 ER in 4 IP. He’s also fine. I’ve been tellin you pards to buy low, and imma say it again: buy low on Bryan Abreu. Ryan Pressly was dog shit in a plastic bag on a summer sidewalk in the South: 2 L, 1 BS, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K in 3 IP.

Kansas City Royals:

  • It’s saying something when Will Smith was your most impressive RP in a given week. No decision, but tasty metrics and 2 K in two scoreless. He’s still outside the purview of fantasy relevancy at the moment; I’m just sayin he was their best this week. James McArthur earned 1 BS in an outing where he failed to record an out, allowing 4 H and 4 ER. He had another clean outing, but 0 K to show for it. John Schreiber had 1 HLD but also 1 L, with an ugly 16.20 ERA and 3.00 WHIP to boot. Barf.

Los Angeles Angels:

  • Carlos Estevez 1 SV. Perfect outing but also 0 K. I don’t care about anyone else anymore. Estevez is okay in SV-only…no one matters in any other format outside of SVHD AL-only leagues.

Los Angeles Dodgers:

  • I love a good trifecta (W/SV/HLD) and we got one from Blake Treinen. Struck out 4 in three scoreless. Alex Vesia had 1 SV and 1 HLD, striking out 5 in three scoreless. This is the kind of Alex Vesia I thought we’d have been seeing for like three years now. He’ll implode next week, bet on it. Biggest news if of course the return of Evan Phillips, who had 1 SV. So all your SV-only shares of anyone else can go. For SVHD, Treinen is king here.

Miami Marlins:

  • A.J. Puk had the only SVHD (1 HLD). Also earned a loss. I don’t like him. I only care about Tanner Scott, who was perfect in his one inning but also didn’t K anyone.

Milwaukee Brewers:

  • Two saves from Brew Crew RP this week and Trevor Megill was neither of them. Enoli Paredes had one, and Elvis Peguero had the other. Megill earned a loss, in fact, but really he was pretty darn-tootin good: 75 K%, 0 BB%, 17.6 SwStr%, and 29.4 CSW%. Oh yeah, Paredes actually had a trifecta. Pretty cool! I don’t know that he means a damn yet for fantasy, though. Let’s give it another week…but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention he’s stormed onto the scene with 7 K, 0 BB, 0 ER, and just 1 H allowed so far in his 7 IP. The lack of whiffs (only 10.1 SwStr%) make me think the Ks won’t stick around, however. He also gets hit hard when contact has been made.

Minnesota Twins:

  • Yeehaw, pards! Jhoan Duran had 4 SV, the most of anyone. He ain’t had a hold in ages, too! No one wants to see Jhoan Duran holds; we wants saves, baby! Ain’t all sunshine and roses, though. He did allow 5 H, 3 R (0 ER), and 1 BB in 3.1 IP. Only 2 K, too. Griffin Jax had 3 HLD, striking out 5 in four scoreless. These two are aces in SVHD formats. Don’t reckon I give a diddly doo about anyone else, even if Jorge Alcala had 2 HLD and 5 K in 3.1 scoreless. Gimme Duran and Jax all day.

New York Mets:

  • Edwin Diaz hit the ol IL. Shoulder impingement. Reed Garrett 3 SVHD (1 SV, 2 HLD). Ugly ratios and blah metrics. Said last week the sell high winder is a-closin, and I declare it so again this week. Ship that man away whilst you can. Statcast still looks purty, but the rolling xwOBA over his last 50 PAs don’t exactly inspire confidence. I guess there’s reason to believe he can adjust and whatnot, but guys who just pop up outta nowhere like this at age 31 don’t often maintain their eliteness. Guy’s got a 1.71 career WHIP, mind you. Danny Young is a name I’m watching closely (1 W, 1 HLD this week), but then again, he’s kinda the same story as Mr. Garrett — a 30-yr-old who’s flashing pretty numbers for now but is a relative unknown. Only 20.1 IP to his name for his entire career. Worth a gander. Ride the wave at least. Dedniel Nunez is another unknown entity who’s looking studly thus far. At age 27 (turns 28 tomorrow), he’s getting his first taste of the big leagues, striking out 18 in 10.1 IP. His Statcast would be among the best in the business if he had enough innings to qualify. Had 1 HLD this week, and while other names are ahead of him for now, he’s gotta earn more consistent high-leverage looks if he keeps this up. I don’t wanna sound ageist or anything, but we’re talking about a dude entering his prime years here, with an 18:3 K:BB to start his career. Minors numbers back up the K upside, though there are some concerns with the BB/9.

New York Yankees:

  • Clay Holmes 2 SV, 1 BS. Elite he is not, but very good for fantasy he most certainly is. Caleb Ferguson led the team with 2 HLD this week. Boring metrics. Ian Hamilton had juicy red metrics on my spreadsheet, earning 1 HLD and striking out 4 over 1.2 scoreless. We’re talking 31 SwStr% and 44.8 CSW%. Tommy Kahnle is a thing again, earning 1 HLD over 2.2 scoreless. I’m still team Luke Weaver for now (1 HLD). Only two holds over the past two weeks but good metrics and 9 K in 7.2 IP.

Oakland A’s:

  • Mason Miller 1 SV, 1 BS. Strikeouts are still there. That’s the good news. Bad news is he walked four and gave up two hits. Has a 13:5 K:BB in his last 6.2 IP. So yeah, great stuff still, but the control is wavering. If I’ve gotta pick a holds guy in Oakland right now, it’s Austin Adams (2 HLD this week), but I don’t feel great about him anymore. Allowed seven runners in just 2.2 IP, and this is a tune he’s played before — starts hot, but then starts to kinda “mid it up.” I just made that phrase up and hope it goes viral.

Philadelphia Phillies:

  • Jeff Hoffman 1 SV. Four hits in 3 IP aside, he was dope. A half-time closer, full-time high-leverage hoss for a contender is viable in all formats. So that goes for Jose Alvarado as well (1 HLD this week). You might have noticed that Matt Strahm cracked the Top 15 of the 5×5 Player Rater. He’s been really, really, really good in 2024: 3 W, 6 HLD, 0.68 FIP, 0.71 WHIP, 34:3 K:BB in 24 IP. Orion Kerkering had 1 HLD, striking out 5 in three scoreless. Hoffman/Alvarado take the cake in most formats; deeper formats can get value from Strahm/Kerkering.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

  • Only SVHD went to Luis Ortiz (1 SV). Props for 6 K in five scoreless, but meh. He don’t matter. Aroldis and Bednar were nothing special in non-SV appearances. They weren’t bad, either.

San Diego Padres:

  • Robert Suarez 2 SV. Still a banger. Wandy Peralta 2 HLD. Jeremiah Estrada 1 HLD, 5 K in 2.2 scoreless. Give me Estrada here.

Seattle Mariners:

  • Andres Munoz 2 SV, 5 K in three scoreless. He, um, rules. Ryne Stanek trifecta! Had 6 K in three scoreless with nice underlying numbers. Pretty sexy duo here, pards. No one else matters for fantasy.

San Francisco Giants:

  • Boring week from the Gigantes pen. Three guys had 1 HLD. Ryan Walker was one of em, and he leads the team with 10 HLD. Erik Miller and Tyler Rogers were the others, and they’re second with 9 HLD apiece. Whom do I like best here, you ask? Well, I reckon it’s Mr. Walker with his 4 W, 40 K, and 0.97 WHIP in 30 IP. Camilo Doval didn’t have a SV opp, and he sucked anyway, but you can’t read too much into that with that kinda guy.

St. Louis Cardinals:

  • Ryan Helsley 2 SV. One shaky outing and one dominant one. I will always love him no matter what. JoJo Romero had no holds but did have 2 K in 1.1 perfect IP. Andrew Kittredge 1 HLD. Wasn’t sharp, but he does enough to warrant consideration for holds.

Tampa Bay Rays:

  • Pete Fairbanks 1 SV, 1 W. Def not his best week. Upside here is still damn near tops, but I’ll admit I’m not terribly swooned by his 2024 totals: 17 IP, 15 H, 9 R, 7 ER, 10 BB, 19 K. Garrett Cleavinger 1 HLD. Wasn’t bad, wasn’t great. Jason Adam 1 BS. Metrics looked great at least.

Texas Rangers:

  • Kirby Yates 1 SV. Good whiffs this week. Dry spell for saves but gotta figure more will come in due time. David Robertson 1 HLD. Earned a negative FIP this week. Always nice to see.

Toronto Blue Jays:

  • Jordan Romano is on the IL, so we’re probably looking at a split between Yimi Garcia and Chad Green. Yimi got the first save chance and converted it. Been one of the very best RP of them all in 2024. I do not cap, family. Pristine ratios and 12 SVHD to his name. Green had 2 HLD.

Washington Nationals:

  • Kyle Finnegan 2 SV. K’d 4 in three scoreless, with uncharacteristically dope metrics: 26.7 SwStr% and 44.4 CSW%. Hunter Harvey 3 HLD, who was characteristically awesome. Robert Garcia also had 3 HLD. Guess I gotta shout that out, but I don’t give a ding dang damn about anyone past Finny/Harvey for the Nats.

That’s all for this week! Thanks for reading. Leave me a comment below so I feel all warm and fuzzy.
