A section of TC Energy’s (NYSE:TRP) NGTL natural gas pipeline system Alberta exploded ~25 miles from Edson, Alberta, on Tuesday, triggering a small wildfire, Global News reported.
The pipeline caught fire late Tuesday morning, sending up a large plume of flames and smoke visible from several kilometers away, according to the report.
TC Energy (TRP) said it isolated and shut down a section of the NGTL natural gas pipeline system after receiving notification of an incident at ~11 a.m. MT, causing it to activate emergency response procedures.
The Canada Energy Regulator said it is sending inspectors to oversee the company’s response.
The NGTL is TC Energy’s (TRP) natural gas gathering and transportation system for the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, and connects with the Canadian Mainline system, Foothills system and other third-party pipelines.
