DFS: Pitching Duel Expected In The Pacific Northwest

0

The Seattle Mariners take on the Detroit Tigers tonight in Seattle. At first glance, the game can look like a snoozefest as both offenses aren’t the best in the league. However, we’ll be tuning in for a different reason as George Kirby takes on Tarik Skubal. These two are among the top of the conversation for the AL Cy Young, and there’s no reason this pitching matchup shouldn’t deliver. Since we’re going to roster both of these pitchers, we’re going to have to get creative with the lineup. Let’s see what else we can come up with for tonight’s 7-game slate that starts at 7:07pm EST.

Tarik Skubal SP $10,100 – Skubal has been one of (if not the) best pitchers in the AL this year. He sports a 2.58 ERA with 162K in 136.1 innings of work. Most importantly, he averages 23.6 fppg. He’s been dominant and I simply don’t believe the Seattle Mariners offense is up to the task. While they’ve put up some more runs than usual lately, they seemed to feast on the horrific White Sox and poor Red Sox bullpen. Expect Skubal to go out and get his, even if it’s a no-decision.

George Kirby, SP: $8,800 – Kirby is a quality start machine. His last game of 5.1 innings ended his streak of 9 straight quality starts. He doesn’t always get the win (because of the Mariners’ offensive woes discussed above), but he’s pitching deep into games and racking up points. I have no reason to expect he won’t do the same tonight against the Detroit Tigers. As the title implies, we’re in for a hell of a matchup in Seattle tonight.

Ryan Mountcastle, 1B: $4,000 –There are certainly other 1B tonight, but we have to spread the wealth after taking the two aces in Seattle. Mountcastle has had a solid year for the Orioles, but has gone homerless in his last 8 games while only scoring over 10 points one time. Not overly convincing, huh? What if I told you that in 63 career games against the Blue Jays, he is hitting .311 with a .967 OPS. He also has 18 home runs and 52 RBI. These numbers are the most against any team he faces. Safe to say he loves playing the Blue Jays, and we’re expecting a big game from him tonight.

Jackson Holliday 2B: $3,200 – How’s this for value? Since his return to the majors, he has hits in 5 of his 6 games to go along with 3 homeruns, 8 RBI, and 6 runs scored. I don’t think we need any more convincing that he’s worth the $3,200 price tag. Ride the hot hand.

Ceddanne Rafaela, SS: $4,200 – I don’t have an explanation as to why, but I really like Rafaela as a dfs player. He scores 7.2 fppg, which is average, but he provides a lot of versatility in how he can score points. He can hit for power, he can steal bases, and the order in Boston around him produces RBI so he’s the beneficiary of runs scored. He’s worth the 4,200 investment as I didn’t see it worthwhile to spend $300 more for Tovar.

Harrison Bader, OF: $3,600 – Taking Bader here since he’s $3,600 and playing in Colorado tonight. The combo just makes sense. He has 8 homers so he can luck himself into one, but he’s also a threat to steal a base or two. He has his fair share of double-digit games, so here’s hoping tonight is one of them.

Jorge Soler, OF: $4,600 – The wind is blowing out tonight in Atlanta and it feels like it’s time for Soler to make his impact felt for the Braves. He hits leadoff for them, but has yet to homer or put up a double-digit performance since being traded at the deadline. He is one of the biggest power threats in the league and tonight is all vibes as we take a hometown hero to score us some points.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

There are plenty of inexpensive infield options for SS/3B, so there may be some added value there once lineups start to come out. Guys like Caballero, Dylan Moore, Amed Rosario, and more can fill out your lineup at a solid price point.

No inclement weather predicted in any of the games tonight. The only major call-out is that there are roughly 10mph winds blowing out to left-centerfield in the Brewers/Braves game and wind blowing in during the Rockies/Mets game.  Do with that information what you will.

Doing Lines In Vegas

The Mariners/Tigers game has a total over/under of 6! That is one of the lowest I’ve seen in some time. That Kirby and Skubal matchup is going to be must see TV. The Braves and Chris Sale are the biggest favorites of the evening with odds of -162 against the Brewers and Freddy Peralta on DraftKings.
