RCL Update: The Week That Was, Week 16, 2024

0

Happy All-Star break, RCLers!  We’re almost 60% of the way now and this little lull in the action is a perfect time to regroup, analyze our teams and league standings, and formulate a plan for the rest of the season.  Are you up by 40 steals?  Well, maybe look to move a stolen base threat for some power.  Are you down 40 steals?  Maybe see if Esteury Ruiz is on the wire as an IL stash.  I”m looking to move closers and semi-closers in several leagues right now.  Guys with loose holds on jobs or ones who may get traded and lose out on saves are perfect for this.  See if a team wants Kyle Finnegan, Carlos Estevez,  or Tanner Scott.  Could the Dodgers pull the trigger on a veteran closer leaving Evan Phillips without save chances?  Is Clay Holmes in a similar spot?  Things to think about when looking to wheel and deal.  Let’s take a look at all that happened in the week that was, week 16:

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

Grey and Son, not to be confused with Grayson, both had excellent weeks with both managers gaining 9.5 points in the standings.  Grey led the league in Runs, HRs, RBI, AVG, and Saves while Son led the league in ERA.  Grey shot up four places to sixth, but the real story is Son moving up two places and unseating MikeC for the league lead heading into the ASB!  What a move!  Going the other way this week was The Great Knoche, who lost seven points and dropped to 11th place.

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

Even after emailing to confirm the dates, I was still led astray on the cutline timing.  Cutline #1 actually happened this week.  Apologies if you got your hopes and then fell to sixth place this week.  I have screenshots and proof that the date originally said week 16 and then was changed midweek to week 17.  Probably just an oversight, but it’s weird nothing got said.  Anyway, if you click on the overall standings and move to week 17 you’ll see the new standings for the playoffs.  They look a lot like this:

And also, the Wildcard tier who have an outside shot at jumping to the Championship Tier at the next cutline date in three weeks, week 20:

TRADES

All the trades that have gone down in the past week.  Public ridicule is not only allowed, but encouraged.

DATE LEAGUE DETAILS
7/10/2024 Perts League

Grey traded Josh Hader & Robert Suarez to B_don for Aaron Judge

7/14/2024 RCL 34

jgumbel traded Justin Steele to SquatCobblersGrey for Carlos Estevez

Two more deals this week including one where B_don went crazy.  Aaron Judge for two closers.  My goodness.  I’d feel better about this if Josh Hader wasn’t giving up a HR to every third batter, but even still.  My guy, there has to be cheaper saves options out there.  Fitting that Grey led the league in HRs this week…and saves.  B_don did get two though.  B_don is leading the Perts in HRs, so he’s trading from a position of strength, but still.  B_don has six saves currently, and the next team has 27.  Can these two lose the gap in the final 40% of the season?  They are probably good for 30 down the stretch I’d say.  So…maybe.  We’ll see how it plays out!

RCL 34 and RCL 12 posted some nice numbers this week, as did Grey.  Grey almost won TOW honors, but his pitching ratios were only meh.  No new records, but a hearty butt smack to all our weekly leaders.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: Drunc Ork

League: RCL 22

Stats:   AVG: .314, R: 47, HR: 17, RBI: 54, SB: 3

IP: 72.1, ERA: 1.49, WHIP: 0.747, K: 73, W: 7, SV: 3

Summary: Drunk Ork meanwhile, had amazing pitching ratios and very good offense.  They went from 69 (nice) to 80.5 points and jumped from fifth to second in RCL 22.  Cal Raleigh (.360 with 5 HR/10 RBI/1 SB) and Trea Turner (.478 with 4 HR/9RBI/1 SB) paced the offense, which featured no lineup changes during the week.  On the pitching side, Logan Gilbert and Ronel Blanco each had two fine outings. Gilbert tallied 16 strikeouts and ratios of 1.84/0.477, while Blanco added 12/2.77/0.692. Both secured one victory. Tobias Myers, Luis Castillo, and Shota Imanaga all picked up wins and did not allow a run.  Good work, Orks, and happy All-Star break, everyone!
