2024 SVHD Leaders

Everyone with 10+ SVHD in 2024

Weekly Saves Leaders

Everyone with 2+ SV over the Last 7

Weekly Holds Leaders

Everyone with 2+ HLD over the Last 7

Weekly Blown Saves Leaders :'(

Everyone with 1+ BS over the Last 7

Arizona Diamondbacks:

  • Paul Sewald 2 SV, perfect in 2 IP. Only 1 K but great 38.9 CSW%.
  • Ryan Thompson 2 W, 1 BS despite not allowing a run? Baseball is fun. He K’d 4 and had nice metrics.
  • Justin Martinez 1 W. Allowed three baserunners in 1.1 IP, 2 K. Hardly any whiffs. Lame.
  • Kevin Ginkel 1 BS. Horrible all around, stats and metrics included.

Atlanta Braves:

  • No save opps for Raisel Iglesias. Pitched 1 IP, allowed 2 H, 0 K.
  • A.J. Minter 1 SV. Two baserunners in one scoreless.
  • Pierce Johnson was activated. Fringe deep-league SVHD option.

Baltimore Orioles:

  • Craig Kimbrel 1 SV, 1 HLD. Struck out four in two perfect innings. There was never a need to panic drop, but it’s fair to look at his Statcast and worry a tad at the terrible BB%, Barrel%, and HH%. Overall, I think he’s gonna be fine.
  • Danny Coulombe 1 HLD, 1 W. Allowed 3 H and 2 ER with 0 K in 2 IP.
  • Yennier Cano 1 HLD, 1 BS, 1 L. Allowed 3 H, 3 ER, and 2 BB in just 1.1 IP.

Boston Red Sox:

  • Kenley Jansen took an L. Wasn’t very effective at all aside from 2 K in 2 IP.
  • Justin Slaten was both hot garbage and kinda not bad? — 1 BS, 1 L, 8 H, 6 R, 5 ER, but also 6 K, 0 BB, 20 SwStr%, and 33.8 CSW%. Still, encouraging metrics aside, I don’t see much justification to roster him outside of AL-only holds formats.
  • No decisions for Chris Martin, but he was awesome: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 14.3 SwStr%, and 42.9 CSW%.

Chicago Cubs:

  • Hector Neris 1 W, allowing just 1 H in 2 IP with 2 K and 0 ER/BB. Owners will hope those walks stay looking like that.
  • Mark Leiter Jr. went decision-less, striking out 4 and allowing 1 ER in 2 IP. Nice whiffs and CSW%, too.
  • Ben Brown got a little love in last week’s column, and while he did strike out 6 in 5 IP, he also allowed 5 H and 1 BB. Even better SwStr%/CSW% then Leiter had, at least.

Chicago White Sox:

  • Michael Kopech 1 SV. Walked 4 and K’d 5 in 2 IP. No hits/runs at least.
  • Jordan Leasure 2 HLD, with 2 K in two scoreless. Two baserunners. Very strong SwStr% (31%) and CSW% (41.4%). I do declare I don’t care about any other names in this pen besides these two.

Cincinnati Reds:

  • Another rough week for Alexis Diaz, who’s faring about as well as his brother right now. 1 BS and 2 L, allowing 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, and 3 BB to just 1 K in 2.1 IP. Lots of ugly numbers and blue on my spreadsheet.
  • Fernando Cruz was almost as bad: 2 L, with 5 H, 4 ER, and 4 BB in 3.2 IP. Did at least have 6 K and good whiffs/CSW%. I wonder if he gets a save chance in the near future…
  • …or maybe Lucas Sims, who had 1 HLD and 2 K in 2.1 scoreless…
  • …or maybe Emilio Pagan, who no decisions but 4 K and 0 BB in three scoreless. Thing is, he was pulled early from his last outing with triceps discomfort. Nothing serious has popped up yet, but definitely something to keep an eye on. Been the best arm in that pen over the last two weeks: 5.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K.

Cleveland Guardians:

  • Emmanuel Clase 1 W, 2 SV, 1 BS. Had 4:1 K:BB and allowed 0 H/ER yet got tagged for an unearned run en route to a blown save. Was pretty much his usual self otherwise.
  • Hunter Gaddis 1 W, 2 HLD. Perfect in 2.1 IP with 2 K.
  • Scott Barlow 2 HLD. Gave up 3 H, 2 ER, and 1 BB with 4 K in 1.2 IP.

Colorado Rockies:

  • Jalen Beeks 1 SV. Allowed 2 H and 3 BB in just 2 IP. You’ve gotta be hard-up for saves to roster this guy.
  • Justin Lawrence 1 HLD. Wasn’t awful but wasn’t very good either. Only desperate, deep-league SVHD owners should waste brain cells on him.
  • Tyler Kinley 1 SV. Who cares.

Detroit Tigers:

  • Jason Foley 1 SV, 3 K in two perfect innings. Still the man to own here.
  • Alex Faedo 1 W. Struck out 7 and had strong metrics, but also allowed 5 runners and 3 ER in 4.1 IP. I don’t think he’s worth your time yet.
  • Andrew Chafin is the only other name besides Foley I might entertain for fantasy purposes (Lange hasn’t won me back over yet), but meh. Leads the team with 5 HLD, but again…meh. Foley or bust.

Houston Astros:

  • Bryan Abreu led all RP with 4 HLD. WHIP wasn’t sparkling, but the 0.00 ERA was at least.
  • Josh Hader 1 W, 1 SV. No hits, no runs, just 1 BB, and 4 K in 3 IP. Solid metrics.
  • Rafael Montero 3 HLD, 5:0 K:BB in 3 IP. No runs but three hits. Good temporary holds source while Ryan Pressly was out — sounds like he’ll be back soon if he ain’t by the time you read this. Just a sore…finger? Might be the first time I’ve seen “sore finger” in an injury report.

Kansas City Royals:

  • James McArthur 2 SV. More good metrics and strikeouts with a bad WHIP (1.71). The WHIP is at 1.40 for the year, and while the ERA/FIP are north of 4.00, the SIERA is down at 2.50. I try not to overthink things: if the K:BB, whiffs, and general strike-throwing-ness are in good shape (they are quite healthy in McArthur’s case), I tend to rest easy. The H/9 is pretty bad, and he’s been tagged for 4 HR, but otherwise he’s been fantastic.
  • John Schreiber 2 HLD. Only allowed 1 ER but had bad metrics and a 1.67 WHIP. Still like him overall for holds. No one else matters at all out of KC right now.

Los Angeles Angels:

  • No save opps for Carlos Estevez. Was good enough in limited work: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K.
  • Adam Cimber 2 HLD. Ugly line and metrics, though.
  • Matt Moore 1 BS, 1 L. Very grody line and metrics.
  • Luis Garcia 1 SV, 1 BS. Also pretty ugly but not as ugly.

Los Angeles Dodgers:

  • Blake Treinen 1 W, 1 HLD, striking out 3 in three scoreless. Did allow 3 H and 1 BB.
  • Daniel Hudson 1 HLD. Overall strong numbers this week. I know some other guys are floating around in this pen, but really it’s only these two that hold any kind of lasting appeal in my mind.
  • Fine, I’ll shout out Michael Grove: 1 W, 1 HLD, 5 K in three perfect innings. Sizzling red metrics, too: 26.7 SwStr%, 43.3 CSW%. I need another week or two of good results before I’m investing.
  • Evan Phillips is inching closer to a return but is still a little ways away. Been doing mound stuff and needs a few rehab reps.

Miami Marlins:

  • Tanner Scott 2 W, 1 SV, 4:1 K:BB in three scoreless.
  • Andrew Nardi 1 HLD, perfect in 3 IP with 3 K.

Milwaukee Brewers:

  • Trevor Megill 2 SV. Headline boi last week was great again this week: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K. Red metrics ftw.
  • Bryan Hudson 2 HLD. He’s shot all the way up to being a good add in all holds formats. Struck out 4 in three scoreless.
  • Elvis Peguero 2 HLD, 4 K in three perfect innings. He’s done this before…wooed folks in with a little hot stretch. I’m not sold on him yet.
  • Joel Payamps seems to have been bumped out of relevancy. Drop in all formats.

Minnesota Twins:

  • Not a single SVHD from a Twin this week. Jhoan Duran took two losses, however. Yay!

New York Mets:

  • Edwin Diaz 2 BS. Officially demoted from closer gig for the near future at least. Can’t drop him, but ugh it’s a pickle if you’re an owner. Maybe all it takes is a week or two of finding his groove again, like that Kimbrel guy maybe? Maybe? Prayers up.
  • Adam Ottavino 3 HLD. Good metrics and ratios but pedestrian K%. He’s a pretty good SVHD type right now.
  • Reed Garrett 1 SV, 1 HLD, 1 BS. Metrics were strong despite 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB in 4 IP. Had 6 K.

New York Yankees:

  • Clay Holmes 1 SV, striking out 2 in 2.2 scoreless.
  • Caleb Ferguson 1 HLD, 2 K in 1.2 perfect IP.
  • Ian Hamilton 1 HLD. Hit the COVID-IL, so he’ll be out for a lil bit.

Oakland A’s:

  • Mason Miller was disgusting…just didn’t get any save chances. The hazards of owning a closer on a bad team, I guess. It’s harder to do in H2H, when spells like this from Oakland make it a lot less fun to own him. But in roto, his value is bonkers. This week he was almost perfect in 3 IP: 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, and 5 K. Hella strong 47.2 CSW%.

Philadelphia Phillies:

  • Jose Alvarado 1 SV, 1 HLD, 1 L. Head of the pack as far as I’m concerned.
  • Jeff Hoffman 1 SV, 1 BS. Allowed two unearned runs and had a meh 1.50 WHIP.
  • Matt Strahm had no decisions but strong numbers. I’m no expert and I’m not on the Phillies staff, but methinks he’s due for more high leverage work. Legit the best RP not named Mason Miller at this point in the season. Utterly bananas 30:1 K:BB in 19 IP, while sporting a 0.15 FIP and 0.74 FIP.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

  • David Bednar 3 SV, 0.90 WHIP in 3.1 IP. Metrics weren’t overly encouraging nor discouraging. Just a run of the mill week.
  • Aroldis Chapman 2 HLD, 4 K in 2 perfect IP. The whiffs and strikes are back and the walks are gone…for now. Hopefully a sign of getting fully back on track after a bumpy ride on the struggle bus these past two weeks or so.
  • Colin Holderman 2 HLD. Fine in deeper formats.

San Diego Padres:

  • Robert Suarez 1 HLD. Ugh. He got the 8th…probably just a one-off thing though. Right?
  • Jeremiah Estrada 1 SV. Man, I forgot this human being existed, won’t lie. I remember the hype when on the Cubs. Looked good this week: 3.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K. Great metrics all around.
  • Yuki Matsui 1 HLD. Was good but he’s still down the totem pole.
  • Enyel De Los Santos 1 HLD and a negative FIP this week. Not bad. Curious to see how the pecking order plays out with him and Estrada.

Seattle Mariners:

  • Andres Munoz 3 SV. Struck out 8 in 4 IP. No walk. Just 1 ER. Dominant stuff.
  • Ryne Stanek 1 W, 1 HLD. Kinda blah totals/ratios but good metrics. This is a pretty solid duo.

San Francisco Giants:

  • Camilo Doval 2 SV. Had 5 K to just 1 BB in three scoreless.
  • Gobs of holds from Giants RP. Erik Miller led them all with 3 HLD. Also earned a BS. Struck out 6 in 2.2 IP, allowing 1 ER.
  • Four other RP had 2 HLD. Tyler Rogers has to be considered top setup man still, but Miller has caught him at 8 HLD to lead the team.

St. Louis Cardinals:

  • Ryan Helsley 1 SV. Wasn’t used much but beasted when called upon.
  • JoJo Romero 1 W, 2 HLD, 1 BS. Overall, the numbers and metrics disappointed, while the counting stats didn’t. Can’t be worried yet.
  • Andrew Kittredge 1 HLD. Looked great, striking out 4 in 2.1 scoreless.

Tampa Bay Rays:

  • Jason Adam 1 SV, 2 HLD. SVHD badass, through and through.
  • Pete Fairbanks 1 SV, 1 HLD. Looked like the elite version of Crazy Eyes Fairbanks that warranted a high ranking this preseason. It’s just annoying the Rays have so far reverted back to the closer carousel.
  • Garrett Cleavinger 1 SV, 1 HLD. Struck out 8 in just 4 IP. He’s borderline must-own in SVHD, and maybe even SV-only if this carousel keeps spinning and he keeps up numbers like this.

Texas Rangers:

  • No SVHD from Tejas this week. That’s Spanish for Texas, by the way, pards. Both Kirby Yates and David Robertson had 5 K. Them’s the only two cats worth a flip.

Toronto Blue Jays:

  • Jordan Romano 1 W, 1 SV. Wasn’t his sharpest, but darn it he was good enough.
  • Yimi Garcia 2 HLD. Guy has been stunningly good in ’24: 18 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 6 BB (three intentional), and 22 K. Yeah, that’s just 1 ER all season you see there.
  • Chad Green is very close to returning, but Yimi’s dominance makes him a fringe SVHD guy at best.

Washington Nationals:

  • Kyle Finnegan 1 SV, 1 BS, 1 L. Less than ideal week for the guy, but he’ll do that, sadly. Value for the price damn near can’t be beat, though.
  • Hunter Harvey 1 HLD. Been one of the best setup guys all year. Love to see him still healthy.
