Alrighty, pards. We’re at that point in the year that this may very well be my last piece. I dunno, might chuck one more of these polished turds your way next week. I don’t think I need to relay every bullpen situation at this point, either. I’m just hitting the highlights this time around. Guys who stood out and who can maybe help you down this last little lonesome stretch, ya hear?
Jason Foley looked like the April version that got everyone all hot and bothered: 3 SV, 0.00 ERA, 0.60 FIP, 3 K. Metrics were dandy. I’ve been saying to drop the dude for months, but now he’s at least a little bit useful again. And we’re in yolo mode. Crunch time. Do or die. Put up or shut up.
Calvin Faucher was hastily added to my home league playoff squad. Earned myself a bye, so I slept well this past week (except not really cuz my 18-month-old is getting those nasty incisors coming in). Faucher had 3 SV and “where the hell did this come from” 9:1 K:BB in just 4 IP. Mason Miller ass lookin dude all of a sudden. Bad teams still need closers, and he’s the man in Miami.
Seranthony Dominguez had 2 SV and 3 K. Headlined last week’s piece and did decently enough this week. Still available in about half of Fantrax leagues.
Tyler Holton had 2 SV (and Foley’s 3 made for 5 DET SV this week. Whoa). Don’t reckon he’s worth much in SV-only, but I reckon he could help a little in deeper SVHD formats. He’s quite boring but usually does okay as far as ratios go.
Tyler Kinley had 2 SV and 5 K. Ratios looked grody but the metrics were robust: 41.7 K%, 27.6 SwStr%, and 39.7 CSW%. Ride him into the 2024 fantasy baseball sunset if you must in SVHD formats…Victor Vodnik might be back very soon this week and could again be the main source of SV for the Rockies.
Ryan Walker 2 SV and 3 K. Another bitchin week from that dude. Still kicking myself for dropping him recently on two different teams. UGH.
Evan Phillips had 2 SV and 1 HLD with 4 K. I can’t rightly say whom I want for saves here if I can only have one…Michael Kopech had 1 SV and 1 HLD. I would roster either in SVHD. Might gotta flip a coin if you’re after just saves.
Ben Joyce 1 W, 2 SV, 4 K. I’m sitting here looking at him on my wire…oh never mind, he’s on my roster now.
Manuel Rodriguez had 1 SV but also took a loss. I know he seems like the favored guy, but I had both him and Edwin Uceta on my RCL squad, and it felt like one had to go. Manny was the odd man out…he was the drop just now for Joyce. Keeping Uceta. Like his floor better.
Aroldis Chapman has to be rostered in SV-only formats. Bednar finally got demoted and is worthless now.
Let’s pivot to the holds scene. Both Reed Garrett and Phil Maton had 3 HLD to lead the week. If I’m going with a Mets setup guy, I guess it’s gotta be Garrett right now. Dedniel Nunez is already back on the IL. He’s donezo for 2024 fantasy baseball purposes. Get you some Garrett to finish things out.
Jake Cousins had 2 HLD for the Yanks. Bad ERA and meh WHIP but had 4 K and a good 32.8 CSW%. I still can’t really get behind the guy for whatever reason. Rather have Weaver or Kahnle.
Austin Voth had 2 HLD and 4 K in 3.1 scoreless. Take that however you want.
Dennis Santana had 2 HLD and 3 K with 25.9 SwStr% for the Bucs. Given Bednar’s demotion and Holderman’s IL status, reckon he’s the Buc to own for holds.
Tony Santillan struck out 11 in just 4.1 IP. Had a HLD but also a BS+L.
